Feminist Cartographies

February 2026

Professional work for the University of Liverpool

In February 2026, I was contracted by the University of Liverpool to help with producing drawings for the Feminist Cartographies research project. One of the aims of the project was mapping and documenting 20th century works of landscape architecture led by women architects. I was tasked with creating a map of Birmingham identifying these sites.

I produced a final map showing these locations, ordered alphabetically. The main challenge was creating a map that looks distinctly like Birmingham without being too overcrowded or having too little. In the end, a balance was found between fading out the building polygons and constraining them to the council boundary. To make the sites stand out, the buildings adjacent have been coloured in a stronger tone.

Between the client, we decided upon a set of colour variations to provide greater flexibility when placing the drawing on a non-white background or surrounded by a different tone.

Final Variations

Multiple variations in different colours were produced, including a white one that can be placed on a coloured background.
